My passion is in architecture…. But right now it’s a difficult time to be picky, especially when unemployed. I’m sticking to my guns though and strongly feel that I kind find that job I love… It’s out there. But in the mean time what do you do, there’s only so much time someone can spend applying for jobs. So finally I’ve listen to the advice I’ve heard for some time now and am volunteering. And it’s related. Bonus! I’ll be spending my time between Habitat and the AIA. I can see smooth sails ahead.
Keep an eye out for posts about volunteering and making it during your “down time.”

Below is an exert from part of my thesis. This explains the general concepts behind the site and design. For additional information on my thesis ‘Rehumanizing the Retail Experience’ visit my website.
This market place will amplify the community, by offering a new retail environment which focuses on the products that are sold and exposes the consumer to the process and production of these products. The retail that will be placed in the market will range from local ‘mom-and-pop’ stores to larger anchor retail with a small-scale feel such as American Apparel or H&M. These types of anchor retail will help to sustain the survival of the ‘mom-and-pop’ shops. I would like to gear the community to focus on the fabrication of the products which are being sold as opposed to brands. The consumer will learn about the product through interactive spaces which are located throughout the market. Each mom-and pop shop will contain both a display area for products, as well as a display of work being manufactured for that store. These interactive spaces will focus on teaching the consumer about the history of the product as well as offer the ability to customize what he or she is purchasing. Interactive spaces allow for greater understanding of the product and its production. Classrooms will exist in the structure for the community to become a part of the fabrication. Additionally gallery space will be allotted to display upcoming products or exhibits related to retail.
“Aggressive builders like Wal-Mart chief executive officer David Glass, along with old retail pros such as Stanley Marcus, are predicting that 50 to 75 percent of present retail will be extinct within a decade.”
In an environment which is so susceptible to extinction, a change must occur. The combination of retail, institutions and interactive spaces allows for a new retail experience. The three spaces promote community activity and the concept of re-humanizing the retail experience. I expect to further develop these concepts with the goal of creating a multi sensorial retail environment.

The American Institute of Architecture’s Newest Member…
I just received an email today stating that my application has been accepted and I’ve just become an Associate AIA.
I’m working with NCARB as well on my IDP (Intern Development Program) Units.
Seems like things are falling into place.

According to consumerist.com SIGG will be replacing all their previously produced bottles which contained a BPA Liner. According to the link you must send an email to liners@mysigg.com and their costumer service department will provide you with the information to voluntarily replace your bottle (not a recall). You have to pay the postage to send it out, but that doesn’t cause such a bad taste in my mouth (BPA however, is a different story). Thanks SIGG for getting your act together.
Hopefully this will be easy
(good bye think green)…

I had always hoped that this story went up there with other urban legends like the boogey man, and even the good ones like Santa Claus. Unfortunately, it has been verified. There in the middle of the ocean lies a mass of trash as large (if not larger than) Texas. Even More Debbie Downer-esk is that sea life is beginning to live around this trash.
On the bright side of things, scientists are looking for ways to use the plastic as bio-fuels. Who knows what they’ll think up next.

Yesterday I was informed that SIGG bottles manufactured before August 2008 were NOT BPA FREE… today I did some investigating on my own bottle and found that I in fact have a BPA infested bottle ::tear:: What about BPA is environmentally friendly for my body, hmm? Nothing! SIGG – News Release
Redeeming factor for my day –> Rob made me an awesome lamp made out of pipes. I know it’s kind of a knock off, but I love it! Next DIY job, cassette tape lamp!
